If you don’t know, now you know.
Electronic applications were the bane of my existence back in 2002. They were so rudimentary at the time where you had to open up a PDF file (make sure it was compatible of course with your Adobe software at the time). Type in all the information into the fields that never quite aligned right. Then print, sign and off it went. I know it doesn’t seem like it was that hard but honestly doing it by hand was much faster.
Now the application process is simpler (I know because I just applied and am currently enrolled again in school). You create a log in account, fill out the fields, hit submit and off it goes. Much like filling out a job application. But much like a job application have we lost the creativity and personalization of these applications (one can argue handwriting shows personality)? Well, Decision Desk seems to think so.
Decision Desk is a brand new start up based in Cleveland (Go Browns) and Brooklyn that is aiming to change the way colleges accept applicants. Decision Desk allows students to create personalized videos and add them to their application for the people in admissions to see and gauge them on a whole new level one might only get should they get a face to face meeting. I have gone to a lot of these EdTech meet ups here in NYC and they are amazing and informative and some of the ideas coming to market are truly amazing. I highly suggest those in education get your finger on the pulse (I will be coming up with a list of must know programs to use for the upcoming school year). However, I want to meet more educators. Talk to them about what they want in the classroom.
Hit me up if you are a NYC educators who want to meet up for drinks or coffee and talk about what would make your life easier in the classroom.
Just going to leave this here….
